In the beginning of the rainy summertime
year 2001 a bunch of Finnish travel enthusiasts were going around
the Baltic states by a car. Finally on the way back home, enjoying
the last night of the trip on the beach of the Latvian Baltic sea,
they came up with an idea of spending one month in the Balkan peninsula,
with a minibus. It all should have been just a nice little joke,
but no, the idea caught the gang with it and little by little became
a more serious plan finally leading to purhasing the blue minibus.
"Training season" for the Balkan tour in the early summer of 2002
showed high-level feeling as we made some weekend trips to rock
festivals etc. and noticed the strenghtened travelling fever every
day, despite of couple of mighty technical drawbacks with the old
bluewing bus.
Anyways, willingness to see the whole Balkan region with its history
centuries old and on the other hand the events that happened in
our time did not let us escape but merely draw towards the roads
less traveled. Anxious planning either over the e-mail or on the
shores of eastern Helsinki with the maps and catalogues acted as
the first round of the experience offering so much to wait for.
Vacation season came early one morning in August when the bluewing
at last showed its capacity as the full-loaded carrier for the laid-back
travellers. This was the beginning of the Balkan 2002 tour
B2K2 tour.
